Summary of A Touch of Darkness

Here's a quick summary of the Hades X Persephone Saga books to help you gain deeper insights into the plot.

A Touch of Darkness Series

Book 1: A Touch of Darkness

In this modern-day revolution on the Hades and Persephone myth, Persephone is a journalism student who is in forced confinement at home and is enjoying her newfound liberation in the city of New Athens. Her freeing, however, depends on a promise that she made to her mother, the goddess Demeter: she will not relate with any of the Gods, next to nothing the God of the Underworld, Hades. As she is keen to secrete her divinity and pass as a human, Persephone has so far not been enticed to break that promise, but all that changes after she goes with one of her friends to Hades' infamous nightclub, Nevernight, where human beings and gods alike can make mutual concessions with the God of the dead himself.

Persephone, without noticing, finds herself in one such compromise, and the terms are not in her favor – she must either create life in the Underworld or face all-time in Hades' domain. Her growing affinity to Hades further makes complex matters, even if she manages to complete the compromise without her mother ever discovering it. However, will she be able to walk away from him or not?

Book 2: A Touch of Ruin

In this book, Hades and Persephone are in a relationship and direct their lives carefully and safely. Persephone believes Hades has authority as the God of the Dead, but he cannot control destiny or death. It really tries them out, and they learn a lot about each other and their love for one another. Things only get aggravated when a dreadful tragedy leaves Persephone's heart in ruin, and Hades refuses to lend a hand to assistance. Anguished, she takes matters into her own hands, striking compromises with severe repercussions.

Confronted by the side of Hades she never knew and being completely destroyed, Persephone wonders if she can truly become Hades' queen. Persephone's relationship with Hades has been revealed to the public, and the resulting media storm wreaks havoc on her everyday life and intimidates her into exposing her as the Goddess of Spring. Hades, God of the Dead, is heavily burdened by a horrible past that everyone is anxious to reveal in an attempt to warn Persephone away.

Book 3: A Touch of Malice

Persephone has formulated her own News Organization, The Advocate, and has enlisted her subordinates Helen, Leuce, and Sybil to work for her. Once it has been released that Persephone and Hades are engaged, they grapple with planning a wedding, retaining their lives private, and dealing with the Olympians. For the first time, Persephone will have to come face to face with all of the Olympians so Zeus can adjudicate whether or not she and Hades can marry. They need Zeus' blessing and remember the war that was forthcoming in the previous book.

It doesn't help that Demeter is enraged in anger at her daughter Persephone for being involved with Hades, and in vengeance, Demeter is wreaking devastation in the middle of summer to protest Persephone and Hades' union. She summons a snowstorm that paralyzes New Greece and refuses to lift the snowstorm unless her daughter breaks off her engagement. Will they allow Persephone to marry Hades and go to war with Demeter, or forbid their union and pick up weapons and become ready to fight against the God of the Dead? Nothing is certain but the promise of war.

Be prepared for an action-packed, thrilling, and heartbreaking installment of the Touch of Darkness series!

Book 4: A Touch of Chaos

Scarlett's 4th book in the Hades x Persephone Saga, A Touch of Chaos, is yet to be published and is expected to come out in March 2024. The plot of the book is that Persephone never thought of a world she would see where a fight for humanity and armed conflict between Gods takes place. Persephone, Goddess of Spring, never approximated a chance encounter with the God of the Underworld; Hades would change her life forever— but he did so.

To end the disorder, she must make use of her darkness and accept who she's become — Goddess, Wife, Queen of the Underworld. Once, Persephone made compromises to save those she loved, and now she will go to war for them. The Gods are in an uproar, the Titans have been liberated, and Hades and Persephone must fight full steam ahead for their happy ending.

The world will be on fire for the final installment of Scarlett's bestselling Hades X Persephone saga.
